I want to introduce DJ Laser, he’s a young up and coming DJ out of the BX. He’s primarily a mixtape DJ and his latest release is about the President-Elect, Senator Obama.

Take some time to get to know him and what he does after the jump.

How long have you been a DJ? How did you get started?
I’ve been a DJ for a lil’ over 2 years now, but been involved with music some way some how since I can remember. What really drew me into DJ’ing was the control the DJ had. From controlling the vibe & mood of a party, to delivering and supplying the listeners with what they wanna hear. DJ’s have a lot of power.

Are you club, mixtape or both? If club, what nights and where? If mixtape, what’s your latest release?
I’m not a Club DJ, But I don’t mind doing them when ever I get the chance to. Nothing against it but its not the route I wanna go towards. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great way to get yourself out there and a great way to get people to listen to you, but its a grind.

Dudes like DJ Camilo, DJ Enuff, & DJ Envy, really go in, and do they thing! Night in & night out. I’ve seen all three of them spin in Person and its crazy, its a whole different type of feel. The clubs is a different vibe, A lot of fun, But after a lil’ too much clubbin’ it gets immune after a while, and knowing myself, I always like to progress and continue onto something new & better. I’m more of a Mixtape DJ than anything.

My Latest release was a Barack Obama Mixtape, with a collection of music from various artists that inspired me to make the mixtape. Its called, “Selected Not Elected: Change or Four More Years.” I came up with the name of the mixtape because in reality we selected him as our new president, we didn’t Elect Him. We wanted The Change, now its here. So the tape has all different types of joints, Classic ones like 2Pac’s “Changes” & Nas’s “Life is What You Make It” Feat. DMX. It also has new joints like Young Jeezy’s “The Recession” & Jay’s “Lick a Shot for Obama”.

I know there were plenty of other songs that I could’ve included and put on the tape, but what I try to capture was what was going on now with the government, economy, our future as we now see it & what we’re going through as a country. The mixtape is available on DatPiff.Com and on my blog.

What type of equipment/software do you use? Mac or PC?
I use both Mac & PC when ever I get the chance. But mostly PC for the basics & Mac to play joints (Serato Scratch). Music Maker is one of my choices for mixing and adding some of My touches to my projects for now, I might upgrade to something better if the performance matches what I’m doing at the time. I’m also using all the other basic programs in your default studios.

Any advice for others who might be interested in being a dj?
I’m learning everyday as I continue to build & add on to my career as well, but for those that wanna become a DJ of any kind or even anything at all not just a DJ, just make sure you…

What’s the next big thing we can expect from DJ Laser?
More Mixtapes. Mixtapes with a meaning & concept behind them. There’s a lot of garbage out there and its messing it up for dudes like myself and artists alike. People just make music to make it now with no significant reason behind it. Those with talent get overshadowed by untalented people that’s allready getting the light shined on them . I’m trying do things that hasn’t been done before, and if it was done before I’m trying to do it bigger & better than the previous person.
