From MTV’s Mixtape Mondays to Swedish music blogs, Cleveland’s Chip Tha Ripper has been putting in work and getting the attention he definitely deserves. Whether it be “Get It Girl,” “Chain,” “Catch The Beat,” or any of the other numerous songs he’s recorded, Chip is making quite a name for himself via his unorthodox flow and funny as hell punchlines.

He recently took a little time to talk to us about his latest mixtape, “Money” as well as the work he’s been doing with superproducer Hi-Tek.

If you don’t know, now you know. Eighty81.com, you got it here first.

What’s up, Chip? Explain your sound for folks that don’t know.
Its about being unpredictable. When you got talent and people don’t know how its gonna come the next time you display it that makes you stay in the game longer.

Sex sells, drugs, violence and curiosity. When you don’t know whats gonna happen next you sit and around and see what the f#ck is gonna happen next.

Who do you make music for?
I guess I make my music for the world instead of just Cleveland. I don’t limit myself to catering to people who are here. That’s why a lot of people like it because its for everybody and not just St. Clair.

Tell us a little bit about the new mixtape, “Money.”
I named the mixtape “Money” because no matter who you are that’s what you about. I did it with EV. I went to Miami, the first time I ever went there I saw one of EV’s mixtapes and my song was on there. That’s when I knew, this dude is working because I’m in Miami and the EV mixtape is in the store so I was trying to do all my mixtapes with him.

Whats your favorite song on the mixtape?
My favorite song would probably be “Catch The Beat.” Rocwilder did the beat. He gave it to LB (Dreamlife Productions) for Al (Fatz) but he didn’t want it. I was loving it when I heard it so I did it but didn’t put it out in time. Rocwilder gave the same track to Lil Wayne and he got a chance to put it out before I did but its all mixtape sh#t so that cool.

You’ve been getting a little overseas buzz. Tell us about that.
I don’t know. I ain’t been over there yet. I hope they buy the mixtape, it’s on my page

Word is that you’ve been working with super producer, Hi-Tek.
Oh yeah. Eddie Bauer is down in Cincinnati running the radio station down there and he linked us up. Hi-Tek was already feeling the cuts I had so Eddie went and connected the dots. I went down there and made some crazy music! I got this song with Chubbie Baby for Hi-Tek’s mixtape. We got a lot of stuff. He wants to do the whole album. He don’t want nobody to get nothing. That sh#ts crazy coming from Hi-Tek, you know what I’m saying?

    Who do you listen to?
I always loved Biggie and Pac. I used to listen to Canibus when I was younger, he has my favorite rapper. I like Talib and Mos Def. I used to like the old little rock even though it was only a few I used to listen…like soft rock. As far as rappers, Nas, Jiggaman, and Luda too. When Eminem first came out, I liked him.

Whats the plan for the future?
I’m trying to hit the streets as hard as I can. I’m not really focused on trying to make a big step from nothing to everything. I’m just working my way up with these mixtapes and try to flood everything so you can’t go anywhere without seeing or hearing it. Me and Al Fatz about to do a mixtape called “Double Trouble” and I’m probably going to do a mixtape with Mick Boogie. I got some stuff lined up with Drama too. We gonna approach all them things as one. You know how we handle that.

Do you got any words for all the Chip Tha Ripper fans out there?
Don’t let nobody tell you you can do nothing. The more people you cater to, the more you have listening. If you just make music for your street then you only gonna go far as your street

When can we expect the album?
Hopefully ‘08. I’m gonna do everything I can to make it happen but it’s only so much you can do except wait on the powers that be.
